Liberal Democrat leader shows his support for the child poverty targets

The Campaign to End Child Poverty warmly welcomes the fact that Nick Clegg's first formal meeting was on child poverty, where he stated it reflected a "deliberate decision to start bluntly with children". He made clear in the meeting his personal commitment to achieving the child poverty targets. We look forward to seeing how Liberal Democrat policies will lead to meeting the 2010 and 2020 child poverty targets, to make a real difference to the 3.8m children currently living in poverty.

Brimington Christmas Party Goes with a Bang

Paul Holmes MP attended the 3rd annual Brimington Community Group Christmas party this weekend. Organised by Chair of the group John Di Iorio along with Damian Carlile and David Smith, the event was a huge success with all those who attended. Children from the local schools were invited along with their parents so no-one missed out on the fun. Santa was even on hand again to give out gifts and take last minute requests for presents. Paul Holmes said 'Yet again the Group have done an excellent job organising the party. Everyone was in good spirits and feeling festive. The kids love this event and they all left with a smile on their faces again this year.'

The Liberal Democrats have welcomed the Council of Mortgage Lenders' criticism of Conservative cuts in income support for mortgage-payers in 1995, but warned the group that it also needs to look at the reckless lending practices of its members.
