I had a fantastic and hectic day on Saturday at the East Midlands AGM and Conference. The day was packed with debate (HS2, Food Waste and A fair deal for the low paid and less well off) training on fundraising and membership recruitment, and of course the important business of the past year's work of the Regional Committee.

Local residents in Chesterfield will be aware of recent attempts by larger supermarkets to take away community autonomy and drive through their application to turn underused pubs into supermarkets. In at least one area of town this has been of great benefit, but the opinion of councillors is that this move is not necessarily entirely altruistic.
