Number of people claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance is falling in Chesterfield – Parliamentary Spokesperson Julia Cambridge

The number of people claiming Jobseekers' Allowance in Chesterfield has dropped, according to latest figures released by the Office of National Statistics (ONS).

The figures released by the ONS show that the number of people claiming Jobseekers' Allowance has fallen by 214,500 since this time last year including 458 in Chesterfield.

Across the UK the number of unemployed people in the UK has dropped by 18,000 between June and August.

Commenting, Lib Dem Parliamentary spokesperson for Chesterfield Julia Cambridge said:

"The fall in the number of people in Chesterfield claiming Jobseekers' Allowance is a welcome sign and shows that our economy is recovering and people are returning to work.

"It is clearly a step forward but we must remain focussed on creating jobs and ensuring that all hardworking people benefit from the recovery.

"Liberal Democrats in Government have helped to create a million jobs and over one million apprenticeships.

"Jobs are crucial to building a stronger economy in a fairer society that allows everyone to get on in life."
