CARBON EMISSIONS IN CHESTERFIELD LOWER THAN AVERAGE

Dramatic new figures revealed by the Liberal Democrats show that Chesterfield is doing better than the country as a whole in keeping down emissions of the gases that cause climate change, but is still emitting nearly three times as much carbon dioxide as the global average.

WEAR IT PINK FOR BREAST CANCER

Paul Holmes, Liberal Democrat MP for Chesterfield is joining forces with Breast Cancer Campaign in its award winning 'wear it pink' day on Friday 27 October 2006 as part of breast cancer awareness month. Paul Holmes MP said: "Every year over 13,000 people in the UK die from breast cancer. Some of them will be from my constituency of Chesterfield and a close member of my family has been treated for the disease. "Please encourage your family and friends to support 'wear it pink' day. It's great fun and the money raised will go towards valuable breast cancer research."

CUTS TO ESOL FUNDING UNDERMINE INTEGRATION

Under questioning from Paul Holmes, Liberal Democrat MP, at yesterday's Education and Skills Select Committee hearing, Ken Livingstone admitted that he was opposed to last week's shock Government announcement that they were to cut and restrict funding for courses in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).
