Tell your MP you want to end Child Poverty!
At 9.30am on Friday the 19th October the Derbyshire Unemployed Worker's Centre are hosting an event to help end child poverty. Local Chesterfield MP Paul Holmes will be speaking at the event along with Katy Farr, a Community Worker from Boythorpe. 3.8million children in the UK today live in poverty and the problem affects children from every region.
The event is part of a month of action and will help to put the issue of Child Poverty on the agenda. The month begins with the International Day of Poverty Eradication on October 17th and lasts until Universal Children's Day on November 20th. The event is crucial as last year alone the number of children in poverty rose to 100,000. Unless policy change happens now, the Government will fail on its pledge to half child poverty by 2010.
The Government needs to invest money in tackling child poverty at the next budget, and we need your help to ask them to do this. Come and show your support for the campaign, tell Paul what you want him to do about it in Parliament and find out more about how you can help.
The event will be held at the DUWC, 54 Saltergate and everyone is welcome to attend. For further information about the event please call 01246 231 441 or visit http://www.endchildpoverty.org.uk/
