Spending your money is no problem for Labour!

Bulldozers are ripping up Queen's Park Annexe as Labour go ahead with building a replacement for Queen's Park Leisure Centre - which they'll then demolish.

They've ignored the many objections and brushed aside the legal covenant that for years had protected the annexe as open land for the people of Chesterfield. And the millions of pounds borrowed to build it will be an extra burden for Council Tax Payers for many years to come - making the national austerity measures even harder to manage.

Many local people thought a better option would have been to modernise the existing Queen's Park Leisure Centre but Labour rejected this - instead it's back to what they know best; spending money they don't have. That's their way, whether in charge nationally or locally!

The Chesterfield Lib Dem Group voted against Labour's plan at every opportunity for very good reasons; because of the borrowing of millions of pounds, their failure to honour the covenant and the sharing with Chesterfield College which will reduce public access.

They also pushed hard for all possible ways of financing the new centre to be looked at with an open mind and the best deal chosen. But this was never going to happen as Labour say that local residents don't want that, but want the Council to always provide things itself. We disagree and feel the public wants it's Council to look at all possible options and then choose the best deal. Tell us your views!
