During the recent spell of exceptionally hot weather there were large social gatherings in Somersall Park that went on until the early hours; the noise and, at times, anti-social behaviour proved very disruptive to residents.

Local councillors raised the issue and the Police and members of the local Community Safety Team agreed with the suggestion put forward by some of the local residents, when visited to ask for their views, that lighting should not remain on all night. For a trial period lighting will now cease at 9.30pm and resume at 5am - in order to discourage late night gatherings. Notices have now been posted in the park to advise the public.

Further problems have also been experienced in West Ward at the Inkerman Park where unruly behaviour and vandalism has been experienced - and Brookfield School playing fields; also at all sites large amounts of litter has been left. Councillor Howard Borrell asked "Can we please ask that all visitors to green areas respect the environment and take home whatever it is that you bring. Also anyone witnessing unacceptable behaviour should report it via the Police non-emergency number 101 in order to establish a pattern of behaviour and allocate resource accordingly".

Fellow Councillors Shirley and Paul Niblock added "Around the country, spikes in infection rates are emerging where people have decided to ignore the Health guidelines. Covid 19 hasn't gone away and we all need to play our part to minimise its impact locally".
