New English Heritage Chair Must Fight For Future Of Our Past

24 May 2007

Commenting on the appointment today of the new Chairman of English Heritage, Liberal Democrat Culture and Heritage Spokesman Paul Holmes MP said:

"I welcome the appointment of Lord Bruce-Lockhart to this critical role for England's heritage. He has the depth of experience needed to take on this tough role. This appointment happens after years of under funding of English Heritage and now the raid on lottery funding of heritage to pay for the Olympics is further damaging the UK's heritage. I hope Lord Bruce-Lockhart will be a strong advocate for heritage to DCMS, where previously heritage has been treated as the poor relation in a weak and under regarded department.

"The Arts and Heritage sector currently need all the support they can get."
