MP warns "Time running out for Councils looking at financial abyss due to botched Government Concessionary Bus Fares scheme"

Angry Chesterfield MP, Paul Holmes, has demanded a prompt response from the Government 3 weeks after he first highlighted the disastrous cuts in services facing councils around the country as a result of Government policy.

Paul said:

"Three weeks ago I wrote to both the Prime Minister and Transport Minister Paul Clark MP to demand an urgent meeting to discuss the disastrous cuts that councils face as a direct result of New Labour's ill conceived policies.

"Three weeks have passed and although Ministers seem happy to preach on television that they are planning to meet with those affected, nobody in Chesterfield has been contacted.

"It is truly shocking that this New Labour government seem content to ignore the problems facing Chesterfield Borough Council and councils throughout the country.

"The effect of both the disastrous under funding of this scheme and the staggering inaction of the Government is that council tax payers will bear the brunt of New Labour's financial ineptitude.

"Time is running out for the many councils including Chesterfield who have been left staring financial abyss in the face owing to the ineptitude and inaction of the Labour Government.

"I have today written to Paul Clark MP demanding to know what steps the Government plan to take to avert the financial disaster facing councils that they have caused."
