Lib Dems Demand Better for the Environment
The climate emergency is now. The UK will not be net zero carbon by 2050 if Tories ignore the climate emergency. There is simply a lack of policies in place to deliver the net zero target by 2050.
Chesterfield Parliamentary Campaigner Emily Coy says
"We must act now to tackle climate change. The UK becoming net zero carbon by 2050 should be the final deadline but we should strive to achieve this as soon as possible."
Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Climate Change and the Environment Wera Hobhouse said:
"Liberal Democrats would place tackling climate change at the heart of government. We would restore subsidies to renewable energy which were slashed by the Conservatives, we would reintroduce standards for zero-carbon homes and would bring forward the date to end new sales of petrol and diesel cars to 2030. All with the aim of reaching net-zero by 2045, five years earlier than this current government wants."
The Liberal Democrats will crack down on air pollution and invest in renewable energy because this is a global emergency. We must protect our planet.
Our plan for the environment:
- Prevent 40,000 premature deaths a year by cutting air pollution
- Ban fracking, and more than double green electricity to 60 per cent by 2030.
Ensure that 4 million properties receive insulation retrofits by 2022, prioritising the fuel poor.
