Labour Rejects Scrutiny Of Saudi Arms Deal

18 Jul 2007

Commenting on the Labour Government's rejection and for transparency in international arms deals, Liberal Democrat MP from Chesterfield, Paul Holmes, said:

"The BAE scandal and the Government's decision to halt an inquiry into the al Yamamah arms deal has seriously damaged the reputation of Britain and the Government's credibility.

We need greater parliamentary accountability, in which a Select Committee of the House can investigate these accusations.

How can the Government's campaign against corruption in the developing world be taken seriously when they refuse and allow transparent investigations at the house?

The Government must take action to restore confidence in British business, by increasing accountability"
