Holocaust Memorial Day Also Commemorated At Chesterfield Museum
Also locally our Borough Council marked the UK's seventh annual Holocaust Memorial Day on Saturday, January 27 when the Mayor of Chesterfield signed a Book of Commitment.
This week, members of the public can sign the Book, which is located at Chesterfield Museum, where there is also a slide presentation on the Holocaust Memorial Day theme of 'The Dignity of Difference'.
Chesterfield's Mayor, Cllr Trudi Mulcaster, the Leader of the Council, Cllr Ray Russell, Leader of the minority group, Cllr John Burrows, Chief Executive, David Shaw were first to sign the book.
Then they moved next door to the Pomegranate Theatre to join members of the public in viewing a special performance by the Pomegranate Youth Theatre of "Same Difference", which explores what can happen when people are excluded from society. The Book of Commitment and the slide presentation are available at Chesterfield Museum all week until Saturday, February 3. The Museum is open from 10am - 4pm every day except Wednesdays and Sundays and admission is free.
The Mayor of Chesterfield, Cllr Trudy Mulcaster, said:
"It is important that we all play our part in ensuring that the Holocaust is never forgotten. We need to make sure that future generations know about the Holocaust and the lessons learned from it."
