Derbyshire’s Roads Third Worst in England
A recent report about potholes in England reveals Derbyshire County Council as the third highest area for the most potholes reported or identified by the local authority. Despite this Council funding for road maintenance in Derbyshire is being cut by 24% this year - that's £7.7Million less.
A catalogue of neglect and poor performance - that is how Lib Dems describe the state of roads in Chesterfield. Too many roads in our town are beginning to resemble the surface of the moon, due to poor quality repairs coupled with the increasing spread of potholes
Lib Dem campaigner Adrian Mather is particularly concerned about the danger posed to motorists and their vehicles writing that "all too many are given a temporary dash of tarmac which has eroded out again a year later. This is a sticking plaster approach which just doesn't last and it's a false economy. Derbyshire County Council need to sort out our road problems properly". (photo 1)
Cllr Paul Niblock says "Following up a complaint from a local resident about the state of the footpath off Gilbert Avenue in Walton, I was shocked to see the state of the road itself. The deterioration and potholes on the main road are bad enough but the state of the side roads is appalling". (photo 2 ).
In one weekend Cllr Ed Fordham has reported 36 groups of potholes, locations and fairly serious road damage from across Loundsley Green. "I can genuinely say I have never seen roads this bad". (photo 3)
