Chesterfield Parliamentary Campaigner calls for permanent cut in local shop and business rates.
Chesterfield Liberal Democrats have selected local campaigner Emily Coy as their Parliamentary candidate.
Emily lives in Chesterfield and works as an accountant for a leading local firm.
Speaking at Chesterfield Liberal Democrat's AGM on Thursday night Emily said: "Chesterfield desperately needs investment to regenerate the town centre and make it a vibrant place that attracts visitors. This would bring money into the local economy and create a cycle of continuous improvement from which residents would benefit.
Liberal Democrat plans to replace Business Rates with a tax on Commercial Land would cut taxes for local shops and manufacturing businesses by 20%. That would be a huge and practical boost for local jobs and for our Town Centre.
Chesterfield is a terrific town on the edge of the beautiful Peak District and has so much to offer, yet Labour has allowed our town centre to decline. The Liberal Democrats have a long history of community campaigning and I intend to help Chesterfield grow and thrive by campaigning on local issues that matter to local people."
Paul Holmes, Chairman of Chesterfield Liberal Democrats and Member of Parliament for 9 years, said:
"Emily joined the Liberal Democrats in Chesterfield after the 2015 General Election. Since then she has worked hard in our campaigns for local people. Emily is everything Chesterfield needs in a community champion and an MP. Articulate, intelligent and hard-working, Emily is a team player who leads by example."
