Chesterfield Lib Dems Set Out Local Priorities

22 Apr 2015

Chesterfield Lib Dems are setting out the areas they would focus on should they regain control of the local council on May 7th.

A Lib Dem Chesterfield Council would;

  • ensure the council tax you pay for Chesterfield Council services will be the lowest in Derbyshire and one of the lowest in the country

  • freeze town centre parking charges for two years and work to bring them more in line with the much cheaper charges of nearby competing centres, such as Mansfield and Sheffield

  • forge closer links with others who have a stake in the town centre such as market traders, shopkeepers and businesses to re-vitalise it to bring in more visitors and be better for residents

  • spend more of the council tax you pay on basic services such as tackling dog-fouling, graffiti and litter - and in the area you live and the town centre

  • make Chesterfield greener by ensuring that all new developments are sustainably designed above basic levels - and we'll forge closer links with local green groups

  • make sure you get value for money by always choosing the very best deal to provide local services to residents - even if it means sometimes using businesses to deliver them - which labour always oppose

  • invest in the regeneration of Chesterfield's run-down and derelict areas

The Lib Dems are the only challengers to more years of Labour rule on the Council. Local campaigner Nick Redihough said, "people have been shocked at the waste and shocked by the cuts of Labour bosses in Chesterfield. They don't want another day of Labour rule here. A vote for the local Lib Dems will help protect our local services and keep council tax bills down."

Local Liberal Democrats are experienced at running Chesterfield Council, as the Lib Dems ran the very successful Council between 2003 and 2011.
