Charles Kennedy MP Commends Chesterfield's Triumphs

20 Mar 2007

Charles Kennedy MP was met by rapturous applause today at the Winding Wheel. The former Liberal Democrat leader came to launch Chesterfield Borough Council's new Manifesto with their vision for the next four years. Charles spoke on the Manifesto proposals along with Chesterfield MP Paul Holmes and Council Leader Ray Russell.

Charles said 'I was thrilled to return to Chesterfield at such an exciting time. The Borough Council have made excellent progress with a new Coach Station, Town Centre regeneration including the shambles and building hi-tech industrial units in Staveley and Dunstan to boost employment in the area.'

'This makes a hat-trick for me in Chesterfield. I first visited in 2001 shortly before Paul Holmes was elected, then in 2003 before the Liberal Democrats took control of the Borough Council. Hopefully my visit today will be followed by a similar victory in retaining control of the Council so that the Lib Dems can fulfil their exciting vision for the next 4 years of regeneration of Chesterfield.'
