"As the Labour and Conservative Parties self destruct the Liberal Democrat message is cutting through once again.

At the local level, of how Chesterfield is run, the Liberal Democrats gained 7 Council seats from Labour and one from UKIP at the start of May, taking their total to 17 Cllrs. The Conservatives, as usual since 1991, failed to elect even a single Cllr to Chesterfield Borough Council.

Last week we elected Bill Newton Dunn as our local MEP -among a record 16 Lib Dem MEP's across the country. The Labour and Conservative vote collapsed.

Today the Lib Dem's are first in a national YOUGOV Poll of how people would vote in a General Election. Lab and Conservatives are fighting each other for joint THIRD place. The worst showing for both of them since Opinion Polling began in 1943.*

As both the Sun and the Derbyshire Times have reported we have even seen members of Chesterfield Labour Party campaigning for a Liberal Democrat vote in the recent EU elections. But it started before that -we had local Labour Members resigning and joining us even before the Local Council elections started in April.

Alistair Campbell was expelled from Labour this week for voting Lib Dem for the first time in his life -as was Lord Heseltine from the Conservative Party. Will Labour now be starting a purge on the lines of McCarthy's 'Un American Committee' activities? Asking every Labour Member 'Are you now or have you ever, voted for/delivered leaflets urging people to vote for, the Liberal Democrats?' Then purging and blacklisting the self confessed 'sinners'?

There will be few Labour members left at this rate!"
