Euro Candidates 2019

Michael Mullaney, the Liberal Democrats No 2 candidate in the East Midlands Region, is campaigning in Chesterfield on Wednesday 22nd May.

This follows on from the visit by Bill Newton Dunn (No 1 on the LD list and a former East Midlands MEP for 15 years) last week, when he met with people on Chesterfield Market Place.

Michael says "With disllusioned Labour and Conservative voters flocking to support the Liberal Democrats in these elections, we are set for possibly our best ever result. Only 3 weeks ago of course we had our best set of Local election results in history with over 700 new Cllrs elected.

Labour voters are dismayed at Jeremy Corbyn's refusal to take a clear position on Brexit and we even have Labour Party Members going out and delivering leaflets urging people to vote Liberal Democrat on Thursday. Meanwhile moderate Conservatives are even more disillusioned with Theresa May's failure. Former Conservative Minister Lord Heseltine has had the Conservative Whip withdrawn because he has declared he is voting Liberal Democrat on Thursday for the first time in his life. Former Labour MP's have announced that they are doing the same.

The independent Remain United group have judged Labour to be pro Brexit and are urging Remain voters to tactically support the best placed candidates to oppose Farage. Their website shows that across England this is clearly the Liberal Democrat Party.

The downside to Brexit is ever clearer. Car firms moving production out of the UK. British Steel on the verge of bankruptcy because Brexit has caused overseas orders to disappear. Our trade and prosperity will be hit hard and we will be much weaker as one nation alone than we are as part of the largest, wealthiest economic group in the world. Liberal Democrats have opposed this folly from the start and have a clear message for Thursday's elections."
