Focus on Hipper Ward Chesterfield - January 2012

January 11, 2012 10:00 AM

Walton

A key plank of many Liberal Democrat policies is the improvement of all local areas: our taxes are your money. Late last year we also reported the success of councillors in persuading partners to get the Walton Shops car park re-surfaced. We believe that all residents will agree that a superb job has been done here. We continue to work on this. County Cllr. Keith Morgan is now talking to the agents to try to get the pavement flags re-laid and the broken ones replaced as some are dangerous trip hazards.

Somersall

Those residents who were up for the traditional walk on Boxing Day or New Year's Day may have noticed the new noticeboard in Somersall Park at the Newhaven Close entrance. This traces the history of the park, its expansion and its increased use by our local residents. The installation of the board is principally due to your local councillors who are now recruiting local residents to be members of "Friends of Somersall Park". If you feel you could support this initiative please contact a councillor for further details. There are already plans up for further user-friendly developments of the area.

County Cllr. Keith Morgan and his fellow Borough councillors Alexis Diouf and Chris Collard would like to thank numerous residents who sent greetings cards to them over the holiday season. We will continue to represent you as long as you choose to elect us.

Boythorpe, Brampton & Chatsworth Road

Recent further social improvements to our area have been the significant grant applications and approvals via Cllr. Morgan's County leadership fund. Key beneficiaries have been Parkside School in Boythorpe; the Spokes Project for less advantaged youngsters run by the Zion Church in Brampton. These have been key injections of funding into the Brampton and Boythorpe area. Additionally, support has been given to the commercial regeneration of Chatsworth Road: such as help towards the artistic work revealing the industrial local history of the local area at JMJ pottery and Spire Aquatics; extended marketing via a possible business directory for Chatsworth Road as a retail destination for the surrounding area; the annual Inkerman Buzz; Transition Chesterfield; the Barbarians Cricket Club and its exploration with local football clubs to improve pavilion facilities and replacement equipment for Robinsons Bowling Club.
