Chesterfield Lib Dem Manifesto Priorities set by Local Residents

After releasing their manifesto for the June 4th elections, local Liberal Democrats conducted a poll to see which of their pledges was most important to local residents. Here are the top 6.....
Roads and Pavements
Roads and Pavements come top of the list at priorities for local residents. Many of Chesterfield's roads ad pavements are in a terrible state of repair. Labour have slashed £2 million from the highways budget but this year, so our roads and pavements will get even worse under Labour.
Police Underfunding
Second on the list of priorities was to lobby the government to end it's poor funding of Der- Derbyshire Police who are the 4th worst funded constabulary in the Country! Residents said that they did not feel safe and secure knowing that the county's Police force was so badly underfunded. Paul Holmes, MP for Chesterfield, slammed the recent decision by the Labour government saying "This decision could mean a reduction in the number of officers and leaves the future of Derbyshire police in a hazardous state".
Elderly Care
Next on the priorities list for residents was to ensure that our elderly population have the highest standards of personal care based on the individual's needs and wishes. Labour-run Derbyshire County Council have underfunded elderly services to the tune of £3 million this year. This leaves our elderly and vulnerable population at risk of not receiving the care that they need and deserve. We pledge to ensure that they receive the care and support that they require.
Support for families and local businesses
In this time of economic disaster the Liberal Democrats feel that all the help and support that is possible needs to be given to families and local businesses. Residents also felt this was important, giving it fourth place on the list of priorities. As we all feel the economic pinch, help and support needs to be given when and wherever possible.
Keeping Council Tax low
The Liberal Democrats have pledged that they will ensure the highest levels of efficiency within the authority will be achieved in order to keep Council tax to a minimum. This will be done whilst maintaining the quality of services. Labour's spin machine has been wasting tax-payers money for long enough. Liberal Democrat run Chesterfield Borough Council has the lowest Council Tax in Derbyshire.
Working with Young People
Number six on the list was the Liberal Democrats commitment to do more for young people. They will work in partnership with other organisations to provide more things to do and safer places for young people to meet. Many young people say they do not feel safe meeting friends on the street and that they have no where they can go to be safe. The Liberal Democrats have pledged to help provide safer places for our young people to meet and more activities for them to do.
Local residents have expressed their anger at the neglect that Chesterfield and Staveley have received at the hands of the Labour run Derbyshire County Council.
Labour have been in government for 12 years and in charge of Derbyshire County Council for 28 years. It's now time for change!
