HOLMES CHALLENGES BROWN TO SEE EFFECT OF RECESSION IN CHESTERFIELD

Liberal Democrat MP for Chesterfield Paul Holmes has today written to Gordon Brown to invite him to visit Chesterfield when he visits the East Midlands on Wednesday.
Commenting Paul Holmes MP said
"I have today written to the Prime Minister to invite him to visit Chesterfield to see first hand the effects of his mishandling of our economy over the past eleven years.
"The recession will not be solved by Gordon Brown's windswept press orientated tour of the country.
"First we had the VAT giveaway, £12.5 billion that could have been better spent on insulating homes schools and hospitals, building new social homes to rent all of which would have created jobs.
"Next comes the Prime Minister's sound bite that he will create 100,000 new jobs without any clue as to how.
"Gordon Brown has started 2009 as he ended 2008 desperately seeking solutions for the economic mess that he created. Just as his recklessness caused the chaos his unswerving commitment to gimmicks and soundbites will do little to help those feeling the effects of eleven years of New Labour's bungling of our economy.
"I hope that Gordon will come to Chesterfield to see the effect of the economic recession on hard working families and not simply stick to visits designed to suit the spin doctors of Whitehall.
