Paul Pays A Visit To The 'schoolfriend' After School Club At William Rhodes Primary

January 24, 2007 12:00 AM

Paul Holmes recently visited the Schoolfriend after school club at William Rhodes Primary School.

Schoolfriend etc is the largest charity provider of childcare and the only organisation delivering breakfast, after-school and holiday clubs on a national basis. The Schoolfriend Club at William Rhodes School has been running since October 2006.

Commenting on the visit, Paul Holmes MP said: "The Schoolfriend Club at William Rhodes School is clearly delivering an important service to the local community, meeting the needs of both parents and pupils. I was very impressed at the standard and breadth of activities taking place. Not only do they ensure that the children have fun, but they also help them to improve their numeracy and literacy."

Schoolfriend etc Chief Executive, Amanda Argent, said: "We are really thrilled that Paul Holmes MP was able to see the exciting work we are doing to deliver high-quality childcare within the school environment. Extended schools should not be an extension of school - children should be able to take part in activities that they are unlikely to be involved in either at school or home. We want to be at the heart of the community and for that reason we are delighted to have the support of Paul Holmes MP."

Schoolfriend Clubs offer a range of benefits to communities, including low-cost, high-quality childcare for parents before and after school and during holidays, allowing parents to work throughout the year. The Clubs also provide extra support with numeracy and literacy for children and the provision of entertaining activities such as drama, art, sport and healthy eating. Schoolfriend etc also provides employment and training for employees, drawn from the local community.

Schoolfriend etc is committed to working with head teachers, local authorities and families to make the vision of extended schools a reality and removing the burden for them.
