Labour Fails To Fund Derbyshire Schools

February 8, 2007 12:00 AM

Commenting on the disclosure of the level of funding per pupil in Derbyshire during Education and Skills Questions today in the House of Commons, Paul Holmes, Liberal Democrat MP for Chesterfield said:

"Derbyshire has been ranked 122 out of 149 Local Education Authorities in terms of money allocated per pupil.

Why should schools in Derbyshire only receive £3,648.72 per pupil when schools in the City of London receive £7,089.98?

The Labour Government is robbing the taxpayers of Derbyshire of the money that should go to our local services.

Coming on top of the £5.2 million shortfall in funding of our police force and the £3.17 million under funding of the fire service according to the Government's own funding formula, this is yet another example of the Labour Government failing to fund services for the people of Chesterfield and Derbyshire.

"Brown and Blair must allow local services to be properly funded to meet the needs of the people of Chesterfield and Derbyshire."
